Privacy Policy

Effective Date: October 11, 2026 · Applies to the Game Gems website and Android app

Welcome to Game Gems ("Game Gems", "we", "us", or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have when you use any of our services:

  • the Game Gems website at https://gamegems.co/ and its quizzes, games, blog and pages (the "Website"); and
  • the Game Gems mobile application for Android, distributed through Google Play (the "App").

Together we call these the "Services". Most of this policy applies to both. Where something applies only to the Website or only to the App, the section says so. Game Gems is a free, entertainment-only trivia service funded by advertising. Where the law requires your consent — for example for certain cookies or personalised ads — we ask for it separately.

1. Summary

  • You can play on the Website without an account. Guests are identified only by a random ID stored in the browser.
  • If you sign in (with email and password on the Website, or with Google in the App), we store your email address, display name and, for Google sign-in, your profile picture.
  • We show ads: Google AdSense (and other ad partners) on the Website, and Google AdMob in the App. They may use cookies or your device’s advertising ID to show and measure ads.
  • We use analytics and crash reporting — Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity on the Website, Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics in the App — to keep the Services working and improve them.
  • In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, we ask for consent before using personal data for personalised ads or analytics cookies.
  • We do not sell your personal information for money. Gems are virtual points with no cash value.
  • You can ask us to delete your account and data at any time — see Section 11.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

  • Account details: email address, display name and password (stored only as a one-way hash) if you sign up on the Website
  • Google sign-in (App): when you choose "Sign in with Google", Google shares your name, email address and profile picture with us through Firebase Authentication
  • A nickname and avatar you choose for your player profile, leaderboards, challenges and Live Party rooms
  • Messages you send us by email or through the contact page, including your name and email address
  • Feedback, error reports or other information you choose to send us

2.2 Gameplay Information

  • A random player ID created for your browser or device (no name or email is needed to play as a guest on the Website)
  • Quiz activity: the mode, category, questions served, your answers, timing, score and result
  • Daily challenge attempts, streaks, achievements, quiz history and questions you answered wrongly (for review and flashcards)
  • Challenges you create or accept, and your scores and ranks on leaderboards
  • Gems, daily bonuses, rewards-store activity and referral information if you use an account

2.3 Information Collected Automatically — Website

  • IP address and approximate location derived from it
  • Browser, operating system and device type
  • Pages visited, referring page, date and time of visits
  • How you interact with pages, quizzes and ads (for example page views, ad impressions and clicks)
  • Technical logs used for security, fraud prevention and troubleshooting

2.4 Information Collected Automatically — App

  • Device information: device model, operating system version, language and app version
  • Device identifiers: an app-generated device ID used to recognise your device and prevent abuse, and the Android advertising ID used by Google AdMob
  • Usage data: screens viewed, time spent, buttons tapped and other in-app events
  • Crash logs and diagnostic information, collected by Firebase Crashlytics
  • A Firebase Cloud Messaging token if you allow notifications

2.5 Device Permissions (App)

The App asks only for the permissions needed by features you use — for example, permission to show notifications. Android shows each permission request, and you can change your choice at any time in your device's Settings. Turning a permission off only disables the feature that needs it.

2.6 Microphone (Website Voice Master)

The optional Voice Master mode on the Website uses your browser's built-in speech recognition to hear your answer. Game Gems does not record, receive or store your audio — we only receive the answer option that was recognised. Depending on your browser, speech may be processed by the browser maker's speech service under its own privacy policy. The microphone is used only after you grant permission.

2.7 Notifications

If you allow notifications — in your browser on the Website, or on your device in the App — we store a push subscription or Firebase Cloud Messaging token so we can send reminders such as a new daily challenge. You can turn notifications off at any time in your browser or device settings.

3. Cookies, Local Storage, SDKs and Similar Technologies

On the Website, we and our partners use cookies, local storage, pixels and similar technologies for:

  • Essential purposes: keeping you signed in, security, and remembering your cookie choice
  • Functional purposes: your guest player ID, sound and display preferences
  • Analytics: understanding traffic and improving the Website
  • Advertising: serving, limiting, measuring and, where permitted, personalising ads

In the App, the same purposes are served by software development kits (SDKs) built into the App, listed in Section 6, and by data stored on your device.

For details about cookies and how to control them, see our Cookie Policy.

4. Advertising

Game Gems is free because it shows advertising. We use Google AdSense on the Website and Google AdMob in the App, and may use other ad networks on the Website (such as Adsterra). Ads are always shown as advertising.

4.1 Website (Google AdSense)

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this Website or other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to our users based on their visits to this Website and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • Ad partners may also use your IP address, device information and similar identifiers to deliver ads, limit how often you see an ad, measure performance and detect invalid or fraudulent traffic.

4.2 App (Google AdMob)

AdMob uses your device's advertising ID, along with device and usage information, to show ads, measure them, cap how often you see the same ad, prevent fraud and, where permitted, personalise ads. You can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of ads personalisation, in your Android settings (Settings → Google → Ads, or Settings → Privacy → Ads, depending on your device).

4.3 Your Choices

  • Opt out of personalised advertising from Google at Google Ads Settings (adssettings.google.com), or in your Android device settings for the App.
  • Opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info/choices (US) or www.youronlinechoices.eu (EU).
  • Decline non-essential cookies in the Website’s cookie banner. You will still see ads, but they will be non-personalised.

Learn how Google uses information from sites and apps that use its services: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. Google Ads Settings: https://adssettings.google.com/. Industry opt-out: https://optout.aboutads.info/ and https://www.youronlinechoices.eu/.

We do not control the content of third-party ads. Clicking an ad takes you to a third-party website or app with its own privacy policy.

5. Consent in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we (and Google) ask for your consent before cookies, device identifiers or local storage are used for personalised advertising, ad measurement or analytics, as required by the ePrivacy Directive, the GDPR and the UK GDPR. Consent may be collected through a Google-certified consent management platform that supports the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework, on the Website and in the App.

Until you give consent, Google receives a "denied" consent signal and only non-personalised or limited ads are shown. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time — on the Website, clear this site's cookies and site data and the consent message will appear again; in the App, use the privacy options where shown, or clear the App's data in your device settings.

6. Third-Party Services and SDKs

We use the following providers. Each processes data under its own privacy policy:

  • Google AdSense (Website) and Google AdMob (App) — advertising
  • Google Analytics (Website) — usage statistics, with IP anonymisation where available
  • Firebase Analytics (App) — usage statistics
  • Firebase Crashlytics (App) — crash reports and diagnostics
  • Firebase Authentication and Google Sign-In (App) — signing in
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging (App) and Web Push (Website) — notifications
  • Google Play services (App) — app distribution and core device services
  • Microsoft Clarity (Website) — heatmaps and session replay, loaded only after you accept cookies; it masks sensitive input fields by default
  • Adsterra and other ad networks we may add (Website) — advertising, loaded only after you accept cookies
  • Hosting, security and email providers that operate the Services on our behalf

Google Privacy Policy: policies.google.com/privacy. Firebase privacy information: firebase.google.com/support/privacy. Google Analytics opt-out add-on: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. Microsoft Privacy Statement: privacy.microsoft.com/privacystatement.

The App is built with open-source libraries (for example Flutter packages), each used under its own licence. A list is available on request.

7. How We Use Information

  • Provide quizzes, game modes, daily challenges, Live Party rooms, challenges and leaderboards
  • Keep score, prevent cheating and keep answers server-checked
  • Create and manage accounts, sign-in, Gems and rewards
  • Send notifications you have allowed
  • Show advertising that keeps the Services free, and measure it
  • Understand usage, fix crashes and improve content, performance and features
  • Respond to messages and support requests
  • Detect, prevent and investigate fraud, invalid ad traffic, abuse and security incidents
  • Comply with legal obligations

Legal Bases (EEA/UK users)

We process personal data to perform our agreement with you (providing the games and your account), for our legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention, crash reporting, improving the Services, non-personalised advertising), with your consent (personalised advertising, analytics cookies, notifications, microphone access), and to comply with legal obligations.

8. Public Information

Your nickname, avatar, scores, ranks, achievements and challenge results may be visible to other players — for example on leaderboards, public profile pages, shared challenge links and in Live Party rooms. Do not use your real full name or other personal information as your nickname.

9. How We Share Information

We do not sell personal information for money. We share information only with:

  • Advertising partners (Google AdSense, Google AdMob and other ad networks), as described in Section 4
  • Analytics and crash-reporting providers (Google Analytics, Firebase, Microsoft Clarity), as described in Section 6
  • Service providers that host, secure and operate the Services, send email or deliver notifications
  • Authorities or other parties when required by law, or to protect the rights, safety and property of our users, us or others
  • A successor entity if Game Gems is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets

10. US State Privacy Rights (including California)

Under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the CPRA) and similar laws in other US states, letting ad partners use cookies or advertising IDs for targeted (cross-context behavioural) advertising may be considered a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell personal information for money.

You may opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for targeted advertising by declining cookies in the Website's banner, by opting out of ads personalisation in your Android settings, by using Google Ads Settings, or by enabling a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal in your browser, which we treat as an opt-out where required by law. You may also request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting us. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

11. Data Retention and Account Deletion

  • Account data is kept while your account is active and deleted when you ask us to delete it, unless we must keep it for legal reasons.
  • Quiz runs that were started but never answered are deleted automatically after a few hours; finished runs, scores and leaderboard entries are kept to provide history and rankings.
  • Guest gameplay data on the Website is linked only to a random browser ID. Clearing your browser storage disconnects you from it.
  • Contact messages are kept as long as needed to answer them and for a reasonable period afterwards.
  • Advertising, analytics and crash-reporting partners keep data according to their own retention policies.

To delete your account and data — on the Website, in the App, or both — follow the steps on our account deletion page, https://gamegems.co/remove-account.html, or email us at gamegems.help@gmail.com. We complete deletion requests within 30 days. Uninstalling the App does not by itself delete your account.

12. Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), hashed passwords and restricted administrative access. No method of transmitting or storing information online is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

13. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Delete your personal information or your account
  • Withdraw consent at any time (this does not affect processing done before withdrawal)
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Receive a copy of your information in a portable format
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

To exercise these rights, email us at gamegems.help@gmail.com. If you play as a guest, include your player ID or profile link so we can find your data. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request and will respond within the time required by applicable law.

14. Children's Privacy

Game Gems is a general-audience service. The Website and the App are not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA/UK, or the minimum age set by your local law). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under these ages and we do not knowingly serve personalised ads to them.

If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

15. International Transfers

Game Gems is used worldwide. Your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including by Google and other providers. Where required, such transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

16. Links to Other Websites and Apps

The Services and their ads may link to third-party websites and apps. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, so please review their privacy policies.

17. Gems and Rewards

Gems, scores, streaks, badges and ranks are virtual game features. Gems have no cash value, are not money, cannot be bought, sold or exchanged for cash, and Game Gems is not a gambling service. We process gameplay information only to provide these features.

18. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when our Services, partners or legal requirements change. We will update the Effective Date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, show a notice on the Website or in the App.
