Privacy Policy

Effective Date: October 4, 2026

Welcome to Game Gems ("Game Gems", "we", "us", or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have when you visit or use https://gamegems.co/ and its related quizzes, games, game modes, pages and services (collectively, the "Website").

Game Gems is a free, entertainment-only trivia website funded by advertising. By using the Website, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy. Where the law requires your consent (for example for certain cookies), we ask for it separately.

1. Summary

  • You can play without an account. Guests are identified only by a random ID stored in your browser.
  • If you create an account, we store your email address, display name and a securely hashed password.
  • We show ads from Google AdSense and other ad partners. They may use cookies to show and measure ads.
  • We use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to understand how the Website is used.
  • In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, we ask for consent before using cookies for personalised ads or analytics.
  • We do not sell your personal information for money. Gems are virtual points with no cash value.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

  • Account details: email address, display name and password (stored only as a one-way hash) if you sign up
  • A nickname and emoji avatar you choose for your player profile, leaderboards, challenges and Live Party rooms
  • Messages you send us through the contact form or by email, including your name and email address
  • Error reports, feedback or other information you choose to send us

2.2 Gameplay Information

To run quizzes and game features, we record:

  • A random player ID created in your browser (no name or email is needed to play as a guest)
  • Quiz runs: the mode, category, questions served, your answers, timing, score and result
  • Daily challenge attempts, streaks, achievements, quiz history and questions you got wrong (for review and flashcards)
  • Head-to-head challenges you create or accept, and your score on them
  • Your rank and score on public leaderboards
  • Gems, rewards-store activity and referral information if you use an account

2.3 Information Collected Automatically

  • IP address and approximate location derived from it
  • Browser, operating system and device type
  • Pages visited, referring page, date and time of visits
  • How you interact with pages, quizzes and ads (for example page views, ad impressions and clicks)
  • Technical logs used for security, fraud prevention and troubleshooting

2.4 Microphone (Voice Master)

The optional Voice Master mode uses your browser's built-in speech recognition to hear your answer. Game Gems does not record, receive or store your audio — we only receive the answer option that was recognised. Depending on your browser, speech may be processed by the browser maker's speech service (for example Google for Chrome or Apple for Safari) under their own privacy policies. The microphone is used only after you grant permission, and you can revoke it at any time in your browser settings.

2.5 Push Notifications

If you choose to enable notifications, your browser creates a push subscription that we store so we can send you reminders such as a new daily challenge. You can turn notifications off at any time in your browser settings.

3. Cookies, Local Storage and Similar Technologies

We and our partners use cookies, local storage, pixels and similar technologies:

  • Essential: keeping you signed in, security, and remembering your cookie choice
  • Functional: your guest player ID, sound and display preferences
  • Analytics: understanding traffic and improving the Website (Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity)
  • Advertising: serving, limiting, measuring and, where permitted, personalising ads

For details and how to control them, see our Cookie Policy.

4. Advertising (Google AdSense and Other Partners)

Game Gems is free because it shows advertising. We use Google AdSense and may also use other ad networks (such as Adsterra) to display ads on the Website.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this Website or other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to our users based on their visits to this Website and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • Ad partners may also use your IP address, device information and similar identifiers to deliver ads, limit how often you see an ad, measure performance and detect invalid or fraudulent traffic.

Your choices:

  • Opt out of personalised advertising from Google at Google Ads Settings (adssettings.google.com).
  • Opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info/choices (US) or www.youronlinechoices.eu (EU).
  • Decline non-essential cookies in our cookie banner. You will still see ads, but they will be non-personalised.

Learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. Google Ads Settings: https://adssettings.google.com/. Industry opt-out: https://optout.aboutads.info/ and https://www.youronlinechoices.eu/.

Ads are provided by third parties. We do not control their content, and clicking an ad takes you to a third-party website with its own privacy policy. Interstitial or reward ads may appear between quizzes; they are always labelled as advertising.

5. Consent in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we (and Google) ask for your consent before cookies or local storage are used for personalised advertising, ad measurement or analytics, as required by the ePrivacy Directive, the GDPR and the UK GDPR. Consent choices may be collected through a Google-certified consent management platform that supports the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework.

Until you give consent, Google receives a "denied" consent signal and only non-personalised or limited ads are shown. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time — clear the Website's cookies and site data in your browser and the consent message will appear again, or use the privacy settings link where shown.

6. Analytics

We use Google Analytics (with IP anonymisation where available) and Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors use the Website, which pages and quizzes are popular, and where people run into problems. Clarity may record mouse movements, clicks and scrolling to create heatmaps and session replays; it masks sensitive input fields by default. Microsoft Clarity is loaded only after you accept cookies.

Learn more: Google Privacy Policy, opt out of Google Analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on, and the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

7. How We Use Information

  • Provide quizzes, game modes, daily challenges, Live Party rooms, head-to-head challenges and leaderboards
  • Keep score, prevent cheating and keep answers server-checked
  • Create and manage accounts, Gems and rewards
  • Show advertising that keeps the Website free, and measure it
  • Understand usage and improve content, performance and features
  • Respond to messages and support requests
  • Detect, prevent and investigate fraud, invalid ad traffic, abuse and security incidents
  • Comply with legal obligations

Legal Bases (EEA/UK users)

We process personal data to perform our agreement with you (providing the games and your account), for our legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention, improving the Website, non-personalised advertising), with your consent (personalised advertising, analytics cookies, push notifications, microphone access), and to comply with legal obligations.

8. Public Information

Your nickname, avatar, scores, ranks, achievements and challenge results may be visible to other players — for example on leaderboards, public profile pages, shared challenge links and in Live Party rooms. Do not use your real full name or any personal information as your nickname.

9. How We Share Information

We do not sell personal information for money. We share information only with:

  • Advertising partners (Google AdSense and other ad networks), as described in Section 4
  • Analytics providers (Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity), as described in Section 6
  • Service providers that host, secure and operate the Website, send email or deliver push notifications
  • Authorities or other parties when required by law, or to protect the rights, safety and property of our users, us or others
  • A successor entity if Game Gems is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets

10. US State Privacy Rights (including California)

Under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the CPRA) and similar laws in other US states, letting ad partners use cookies for targeted (cross-context behavioural) advertising may be considered a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell personal information for money.

You may opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for targeted advertising by declining cookies in our banner, by using Google Ads Settings, or by enabling a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal in your browser, which we treat as an opt-out where required by law. Residents of these states may also request access to, correction of, or deletion of their personal information by contacting us. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

11. Data Retention

  • Account data is kept while your account is active and deleted on request, unless we must keep it for legal reasons.
  • Quiz runs that were started but never answered are deleted automatically after a few hours; finished runs, scores and leaderboard entries are kept to provide history and rankings.
  • Guest gameplay data is linked only to a random browser ID. Clearing your browser storage disconnects you from it.
  • Contact messages are kept as long as needed to answer them and for a reasonable period afterwards.
  • Advertising and analytics partners keep data according to their own retention policies.

12. Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information, including HTTPS encryption, hashed passwords and restricted administrative access. No method of transmitting or storing information online is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

13. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Delete your personal information or your account
  • Withdraw consent at any time (this does not affect processing done before withdrawal)
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Receive a copy of your information in a portable format
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

To exercise these rights, email us at gamegems.help@gmail.com. If you play as a guest, include your player ID or profile link so we can find your data. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request and will respond within the time required by applicable law.

14. Children's Privacy

Game Gems is a general-audience website and is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA/UK, or the minimum age set by your local law). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under these ages and we do not knowingly serve personalised ads to them.

If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us and we will delete it.

15. International Transfers

Game Gems is used worldwide. Your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including by Google and other partners. Where required, such transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

16. Links to Other Websites

The Website and its ads may link to third-party websites. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, so please review their privacy policies.

17. Gems and Rewards

Gems, scores, streaks, badges and ranks are virtual game features. Gems have no cash value, are not money, cannot be bought, sold or exchanged for cash, and Game Gems is not a gambling service. We process gameplay information only to provide these features.

18. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when our services, partners or legal requirements change. We will update the Effective Date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, may show a notice on the Website.
